Second Life, First Class: Vintage Finds in High-End Interior Design in Miami

There’s something undeniably special about working with a repeat interior design client. You already speak the same design language, understand their rhythms and preferences, and—most importantly—have built trust. That foundation is gold in luxury interior design, especially in a fast-evolving city like Miami, where design trends and client tastes are as dynamic as the skyline.
So when one of my clients came back to me with a new project and said, “This time, I think I want to go vintage,” I lit up.

Their aesthetic leans Mid-Century Modern—think clean lines, rich woods, and sculptural silhouettes. I immediately dove into the deep end of vintage design research, curating a selection of furnishings that feel storied yet elevated enough for a luxury residence in Pinecrest.
From Scandinavia to South Florida
This project brought back memories of a design pilgrimage I took to Scandinavia two summers ago. One stop that left an imprint was the Helsinki studio of Alvar Aalto, one of Finland’s most influential modern architects and furniture designers. Aalto’s work is a masterclass in restraint and warmth—his signature bentwood forms are as functional as they are poetic.
Aalto was also one of the founders of Artek, a design house known for its sculptural yet practical furniture and lighting. But what truly sparked inspiration for this project was discovering Artek Second Cycle, a curated marketplace that celebrates "pre-loved" Nordic design.
Artek Second Cycle specializes in rediscovering and restoring iconic pieces—chairs, lighting, and accessories—that have lived one life and are ready for another. These items arrive with patina and personality intact, embracing the beauty of imperfection.
Why Vintage Works in Miami’s High-End Interiors
There’s a common misconception that luxury interior design must be filled with brand-new furnishings. But in my experience—especially with my discerning South Florida clientele—there’s growing appreciation for pieces with narrative, character, and provenance.
Here’s why vintage shines in high-end Miami interiors:
Provenance Adds Value: A piece by Aalto or a rare Poul Kjærholm table brings museum-level quality to a private residence.
Sustainability Meets Style: In an age of conscious living, reusing iconic furniture reflects both values and vision.
Layered Sophistication: Blending a vintage credenza with contemporary lighting and bold Miami art collections adds richness and depth.
Patina Is Chic: A gently worn finish or subtle imperfection reminds us that real beauty is lived-in, not lacquered.
Where to Source Vintage Luxury Furnishings
While Artek Second Cycle is a global standout, there are several trusted sources I tap into regularly:
1stDibs (online) – A go-to for vetted vintage dealers worldwide, including standout Miami-based collections.
Design/Market in Copenhagen – The Scandinavian motherlode. If you time it right, attend 3 Days of Design in July for an immersive experience.
Pamono – A European online platform offering rare finds from Italy, France, and Finland.
Settled In Shop (Miami) – sourcing unique vintage and antique artwork, furnishings and home decor that fit today’s interior design needs.
Primaried Studio (Miami) – specializing in vintage Postmodern, Mid-Century, and Art Deco furniture.
FlipAtik (Fort Lauderdale) – Mid-Century Modern and Danish design with local delivery.
API Midcentury Modern (Palm Beach) – original Italian and Scandinavian pieces, an offshoot of Authentic Provenance, including lighting and art.
For my current project, I’ll be blending global sourcing with hidden local gems, curating a mix of iconic names and undiscovered treasures. Because the goal isn’t to create a period piece—it’s to design a timeless home filled with story and soul.
Your Miami Home Deserves Its Next Chapter
At the core of luxury residential design in Miami is this simple belief: our homes should reflect who we are and where we’ve been. Vintage furnishings help tell that story, adding history and craftsmanship to modern-day living.
Whether you’re looking to layer a few vintage pieces into a sleek Brickell condo or fully furnish your Coral Gables estate with heritage design, I’d love to help bring your vision to life.
