The Art of Living Beautifully

For this couple, home was a place to unwind, entertain close friends, and enjoy the contemporary art they had thoughtfully collected over the years. While their apartment reflected their modern aesthetic, it didn't fully support the way they lived.

The second bedroom was dedicated to the occasional overnight guest, yet spent most of the year serving as a home office. Meanwhile, the living room, where they relaxed, entertained, and experienced their art every day, felt constrained. Even the artwork itself wasn't being seen as it deserved, limited by a lighting scheme that left the collection feeling flat and uninspired. Rather than simply opening a wall to enlarge the living area, we reimagined the apartment around their everyday life.

The former guest room became a sophisticated den, home office, and entertaining space, anchored by a custom Clei wall system that conceals a queen-size bed behind a rotating panel. In its everyday position, the panel serves as the television wall. When guests arrive, it simply rotates to reveal the bed without disconnecting or removing the television, which allows the room to transition effortlessly from stylish den to private guest suite. Pocketing retractable panels provide complete privacy when needed, while a workspace thoughtfully doubles as a bar, perfectly suited to the couple's love of entertaining.

A layered lighting design proved equally transformative. Carefully orchestrated ambient, accent, and art lighting brought depth, warmth, and drama to the interiors, allowing the homeowners' collection to be experienced as it was meant to be. The transformation was so striking that the clients described their home in one word: "sexy."

Every furnishing and finish was selected with the same level of intention as the architecture itself. Iconic Ico Parisi-designed pieces by Cassina, Knoll furnishings, luxurious Pierre Frey textiles, and richly detailed contemporary finishes create an interior that feels timeless, collected, and effortlessly sophisticated. Together, they provide a refined backdrop for the homeowners' art collection, allowing every piece to contribute to a cohesive and deeply personal environment.
